In 2020 Jonesborough was among the top 20 safest cities in the State of Tennessee, according to the Statewide Cities Report. At a high level, Jonesborough’s Public Safety Department works to protect the public – safeguarding people from crimes, disaster and other potential dangers and threats. This department is the umbrella for Police, Fire and Dispatch all working toward the primary goal to prevent danger and to protect the wellbeing of citizens, communities and organization.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Jonesborough Department of Public Safety is to ensure a safe and secure environment in Jonesborough for all persons by providing professional law enforcement and fire protection through responsive, courteous, caring, and dedicated service while practicing our core values of integrity, respect and fairness.
The Jonesborough Department of Public Safety consists of Police, Fire and Dispatch and is located in Town Hall at 123 Boone Street, Jonesborough, Tennessee 37659. The Director of Public Safety, Craig Ford oversees the general operation of the three divisions, while the Police Chief and the Fire Chief direct specific activities. Telephones are answered 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and residents may also gain access to Police Department personnel 24 hours a day at Town Hall.
Shop with a Cop or Firefighter
Shop with a cop or firefighter: Every year Jonesborough Public Safety serves more than 200 children from low income families during shop with a cop or firefighter. Kids are served dinner and then can go on a ‘shopping spree’ with a Jonesborough officer.
