The routine maintenance and repair of all of the Town’s fleet of vehicles and equipment is directed by the Fleet Manager, Steven Beckett. Steven has been an automotive technician since 1985 and is an ASE Master Technician and started, owned and operated American Import Services INC here in the Tri-Cities before coming to work with the Town of Jonesborough. The Fleet Manager and three additional mechanics work full-time at the Town Garage to see that the vehicles and equipment continue to operate efficiently and safely.
The Town of Jonesborough uses sophisticated software to track fleet expenses along with fuel management software to track operating costs. This attention to detail, and the smart acquisitions of both new and used equipment, have earned Jonesborough’s Fleet Management Department a number of awards. The Department has been listed as one of the top 100 fleets in North America for 3 years in a row. Also, Automotive Service of Excellence awards are rare yet the Blue Seal of Excellence has been awarded to the Town of Jonesborough’s Garage since 2010.
Jonesborough’s three (3) mechanics are constantly engaged internally in properly caring for the equipment used by all departments, and there is not routine interaction with the general public. However, their activities save a tremendous amount of money in Town operating expense, and the Fleet Maintenance guidance in the acquisition and replacement of vehicles and equipment helps Town officials make the best decisions possible in providing Town crews with what they need to effectively carry out their work.
