Mission Statement

The mission of the Jonesborough Senior Center is to be a community focal point for people over 50 years of age.  Our center is designed to enhance the quality of life for our members by providing a place to be active, fit and connected. Our focus is on healthy aging through social engagement, physical well-being, civic involvement, creativity, and lifelong learning.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. oversees the operation of the Senior Center.  The center offers a variety of activities, programs and fitness classes.  With a motto of “Your place to be Active, Fit and Connected”, the utmost importance is placed on the programs offered at the center meeting with that goal. The senior center programs are designed to meet all the aspects of overall well-being, including financial, fitness, nutrition, emotional health, entertainment, outings and the center is committed to being a community focal point for providing excellent service to our members  age 50 +.  Mary can be reached at  423-753-1084.


The Jonesborough Senior Center opened its doors on December 7, 2015. With almost 30,000 square feet the center offers plenty of space for center members to take part in their program of staff outsidesmchoice. The first floor of the center offers a computer lab, classroom, arts and crafts, dining room and card/ game room. The Main Street level of the center offers a fitness center, group exercise room, recreation room and wellness resources (clinic).  The center hours are 8am-6pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The center is open Tuesday and Thursday 8am-8pm. 


JoyceRsmJoyce Repass is the Receptionist at the center and she is located at the front desk and welcomes members, assists with signing up, collects money for trips gives tours and coordinates the volunteer support at the reception desk. She answers phone calls and helps out with member needs. Joyce can be reached at 423.753.4781.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it., Assistant Director, is responsible for certain financial and statistical aspects of the Senior Center.  Kathy maintains a Special Projects account funded with donations and fundraisers and the account is used for events and programming at the center. KathyCsm


Kathy oversees the new member registration and the reporting of participation to First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability.  The daily tracking of participation is crucial to the continued government funding. Kathy also works closely with Net Trans and arranges transportation to and from the senior center Monday - Friday, at no charge to members. Kathy serves as a point of coordination with various other agencies in the community, including the Neighborhood Service Center and is responsible for signing up members who qualify for food commodities.  Kathy can be reached at 423-753-1082.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is responsible for planning and managing activities, events, trips, and programs for our members.  Our programming goal is to offer a wide variety of experiences and education that allows members to go places, learn new things and be active in a safe and social environment.  Examples of trips:  a day trip to the theatre, a train ride, shopping trip and to local attractions.  The center also provides out of town and overnight trips to places like Savannah, Myrtle Beach and Williamsburg.    


As a part of our Lifelong Learning program, the center offers educational programs that cover many different topics of interest; to include financial, armchair travel, Bible studies, language and cooking classes.   Arts and Crafts is another well-established program at the center, including basket weaving, painting, jewelry making and quilting. There are plenty of opportunities to join in the fun. With the addition of the computer lab, members can use the center computers daily and enjoy taking classes, games and checking emails.Gabe2sm

Lydia Porter, Nutrition Site Coordinator  works with FTHRA to provide a weekday, lunchtime meal in the Senior Center’s dining room at 11:30AM, and also manages the Meals on Wheels program for seniors in Washington County, Tennessee. 


Members of the Jonesborough Senior Center who wish to have lunch at the center may sign up by calling the center’s main number, 423.753.4781 or stop by the dining room to RSVP. Please sign up 3 days in advance so enough food can be prepared. Suggested lunch contributions are $2.00 for members 60 years old and older and $6.00 for younger members. Monthly menus are posted at the main desk.  You can see the current MENU HERE.


The Meals on Wheels program relies heavily on volunteers to deliver and serve the nutritious meals that so many homebound seniors rely on daily. Without our dedicated volunteers this valuable program would not survive. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Lydia at 423.753.1080.  


Allen WeemssmThe Options Counselor, Allen Weems  works with the First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability, and is available Monday - Friday..  The FTAAAD administers programs through the Older Americans Act. The goal is to keep individuals in their home for as long as possible so that they can remain an active part of the community. Services provided through these programs include homemaker services, personal care services, home delivered meals, in home respite services, and PERS. These services are in high demand, and there is a waiting list. If you, or someone you know is in need of these services, the sooner the screening the better. The Options Counselor is available to help find community resources for those who need it and to help with programs, such as energy assistance (LIHEAP).  Allen can be reached at 423.753.1081.


Wellness Coordinator, Jim Rountree, conducts the Fitness Orientations each Thursday at 2:30pm and is available for help with the equipment use from 2-6pm. Jim can be reached at 423.753.1075.


Kathleen Senior Center copyKathleen O'Brien is the center’s Parish Nurse.  She is here Monday's from 8:30-1:30 and Wednesday's from 8:30-12:30, providing blood pressure, blood sugar, one-on-one health coaching.  Kathleen can be reached at 423.753.4781.

The Director works closely with the Senior Center Advisory Board that meets monthly on the 4th Thursday at 4pm. The Advisory Board assists in recommending new programs, fundraising and assisting the center with events.

The play features stories of a medic who served during the Battle of the Bulge; an Irish girl and a GI who met by chance in London, and found a lasting love; a farm boy who joins CCC during the Depression, and is immediately commissioned when war is declared on Japan; an elopement during FDR's days that is still strong after seventy-three years; a cowboy, who saw the world change from horse and buggy to the space age; plus many, many more stories, all from the members of the Jonesborough Senior Center.
