Washington County and Jonesborough residents may register to vote at the Washington County Election Commission. The Election Commission Office is currently located at the west side of the Washington County Courthouse in downtown Jonesborough. You must have an acceptable photo ID in order to register, and registration must be thirty (30) days in advance of an election. As registration requirements tend to change periodically, it is best to call the Washington County Election Commission Office at 423.753.1688 to obtain current requirements and voting schedules.

Jonesborough Elections
Jonesborough elections are held every other year with the national elections the first Tuesday of November. There are three members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen running every two years. The Mayor runs every two years, and two of the four Aldermen are on the ballot every two years as well. Any referendums or other special votes are normally held with the city elections.

Jonesborough Town residents vote at the Jonesborough Visitor Center on Election Day. This is true whether it is a primary, Jonesborough, Washington County, State, or National election. Early voting is at the Election Commission Office in the Courthouse downtown.
Early Voting
Early voting normally begins fourteen (14) days before each election, and ends five (5) days before the designated Election Day.
Absentee Voting
Residents can vote absentee, and the applications and ballots are handled directly by the Washington County Election Commission.

County Elections
Jonesborough Town residents and those people living within the corporate limits vote for all County Office holders and for County Commissioners within the 6th District. There are 25 County Commissioners, and the Town of Jonesborough is within the 6th District which has three (3) Commissioners. The top three (3) vote recipients are elected to the Commission.
Primaries for County Elections are held in May every four years, and the General County Election is held in August.
The County Mayor and other County Office holders are elected to four-year terms. Primaries for County Office holders are also held in May with the General Election in August.
State and Federal Elections
State Representatives and U.S. Congressional primaries are held in August and general elections are held in November with the National Elections. Jonesborough Town residents are served by the State Representative who is the winner of the Tennessee 7th district election.
