The arts are alive in Historic Jonesborough, Tennessee, and no place makes that more evident than the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre. Nestled on Main Street in the historic district, the theatre performs a year-round schedule of shows that entertain theatre enthusiasts of all ages. If you like drama, comedy, music, or dance, there is a play for you to enjoy. The JRT is also a community service organization offering many opportunities to local groups and individuals. There are numerous ways to utilize the JRT services and to be involved with them.
Friends of JRT
This group of volunteers meets monthly to discuss ways of improving various aspects of the theatre. Members volunteer for committees in the areas for which they feel most connected, including the Historic, Decorating, Fundraising, Hospitality, and Costume Committees. These are just a few areas already working to make JRT the best it can be to serve our community.
The JRT Players
The Players is a traveling troupe of singers and actors who perform for special events, schools, and civic-minded organizations. The troupe is made up of over 40 dancers, singers, actors, storytellers, and playwrights who maintain a repertoire of one acts, skits, dances, musical numbers, and original material for any occasion. You can be involved by booking the Players at your event, or by auditioning to be a Player.
Storybook Character Parties
Throw a party with one or more of your favorite Storybook Characters through the JRT. Characters include Snow White, Cinderella, various Superheros, Nordic Princesses, and many more. Amenities include face painting, storytelling, games, a costume box, and original skits. This is fun for both kids and adults. A charming way to have a party.
Main Stage Productions
The JRT produces 8 main stage performances a year. There are many ways for the community to be involved as theatre volunteers or patrons. Each production needs actors, technical help, set builders, costume builders, and the musicals need instrumentalists. Keep an eye on the JRT website for information about auditions and how you can be involved.
If you just want to sit back and enjoy a show, the JRT is committed to give its patrons a positive theatre-going experience. You may want to consider being a season pass holder and utilize its many benefits. Or you can bring a group of 15 or more at a discounted rate. Some of our productions offer a dinner/show package. What a wonderful way to enjoy an evening in Historic Jonesborough. And the JRT is always open to suggestions from the community on how best to serve its patrons.
JRT Educational Programs
There are a variety of theatre related educational programs for youth and adults through the JRT and Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts. Youth drama classes and musical theatre classes culminate with productions for the community. There are also classes for adult drama, dance, script writing, storytelling, and others.
